Burning M&M Lab
fingerful of KClO3
Test tube clamp
The potassium chlorate was placed in the test tube. The tube was then held over the flame from the Bunsen burner. When the potassium chlorate had turned into a liquid, the test tube was placed in the Erlenmeyer flask. Two m&ms were slid into the test tube. The result was a brilliant purple flame.
Strip of index card
Put very little iodine in the flask. Place finger on index card. Place index card in flask so that the iodine is on the opposite side of the fingerprint. Put Kleenex in the opening. Hold flame to the iodine until purple is visible.
The fingerprints will show up on the card.
